American Red Cross
The Central Maryland Chapter has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities in blood services, as clerical support in a number of departments, in emergency, health and youth services, in marketing and public relations, the financial department, and more. All volunteers will receive thorough orientation to the Red Cross and specialized training by the departments to adequately prepare them to perform the job of their choice. Volunteers may hold several positions at one time or select another position should their original position no longer interest them. Annapolis Optimist Club
The Annapolis Optimist Club is a local chapter of the international service organization which supports many youth based programs including sports, scouts, camps, charitable campaigns, teaming youth with law enforcement agencies, and more. New member volunteers, age 18 and up, are always being sought to help with the organizations operations. Also, volunteer basketball coaches are needed for the winter basketball leagues for kids age 6-17; the teams practice one night a week and play one game a week on weekends. Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region
The Arc advocates for and supports County citizens with developmental disabilities/mental retardation. Volunteers are needed to help with fund raising, assist in the office, with special events and to serve on the Board of Directors. Volunteers, 16 years and older, are especially needed as gardening assistants at the Arc’s sensory garden in Annapolis, including plant care, patio maintenance, planting trees/shrubs, etc. and to help with leaf and yard maintenance at 30 homes the Arc manages throughout the County. Volunteers are also needed for painting at the homes and yard work during spring and summer at the Spa Road office. Light House Ride for Shelter, Sun., Sept. 20, 2009
Participants and sponsors are needed for the Fifth Annual Ride for Shelter Neighborhood Challenge fundraiser on Sun., Sept. 20, 2008 at the Severna Park Park-N-Ride (Jones Station Rd. & Ritchie Hwy., Arnold). Registration is at 12 noon and the ride starts at 1 pm; riders will enjoy scenic 5, 10, or 20 mile rides along the B&A Trail, and there will be free kids’ activities, free refreshments and snacks, and prizes for participation and fundraising achievement levels. Banneker-Douglass Museum
The museum is currently seeking to fill the position of Volunteer Maryland Coordinator (VMC). The VMC will serve at the museum recruiting and managing volunteers to work with school groups providing interpretation of the museum’s wealth of exhibits and information, and assist staff with educational programs. The VMC will also recruit and manage volunteers who will provide daily tours to the museum’s visitors. Also, the VMC will work with staff to create a better process for recruiting & managing volunteers working as school group leaders and museum docents. This is an 11 month, part-time (20 hours/week) position as a member of the Volunteer Maryland (VM) AmeriCorps program serving at Banneker-Douglass Museum. The position provides a living stipend of $6,500, and other benefits including an education award and student loan deferment. The VMC service year begins 9/16/09 and concludes on 8/3/10. Peace Lutheran Church
Volunteers are needed to teach English to Spanish speaking residents in Glen Burnie. The program runs from Sept. to Apr. every Tues. and Thurs from 7–9 pm. Training is provided for anyone that is interested. No prior experience is necessary just the desire to help. Junior League of Annapolis
This organization reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who share an interest in and commitment to volunteerism and community service. Volunteers needed to work on a variety of projects supporting children and families , and to assist with fundraising, serve on Board of Directors and support other programs and services. · Sat., Aug. 8 & 15, Book Bag Project at Office Depot, Annapolis: Each year, Junior League of Annapolis, Inc., in partnership with Office Depot of Annapolis, provides book bags and school supplies for 1,000 Anne Arundel County elementary school students in need. Movable Feast
This nonprofit provides home delivered meals for clients who are homebound with HIV/AIDS. Volunteers, as young as 16 (15 & under w/adult) are needed to deliver meals Monday through Friday between 9 am and 3 pm and 5 pm–8 pm. Meal delivery takes about 1 hr and drivers have flexibility in setting their schedules. Volunteers are asked to deliver once a week or once a month. Kitchen and office help are also needed. State’s Attorneys Office

Patrons and participants are needed to support this event sponsored by the States Attorney’s Office & Anne Arundel Bar Association which supports victims of crime. Volunteers are also needed to help before and on the day of this fundraiser. The race is on the B&A Trail beginning at 8:15 a.m. at Park Plaza Shopping Center, Severna Park.
