Annapolis Maritime Museum
The Annapolis Maritime Museum needs volunteers to staff the newly renovated McNasby Oyster Company building for public tours, Thursdays through Sundays, noon to 4 p.m. each day. Volunteers will be trained to interpret the Museum’s current and upcoming exhibits, themes and education programs to Museum visitors, including children, adults and families. Docents must be enthusiastic, cheerful, and willing to learn. They should have an interest in working with people, and be willing to become actively involved with the programs of the Museum. Experience or education in history, maritime heritage, or teaching is helpful, though not required.

Books for International Goodwill (B.I.G.)
B.I.G. needs help moving its operation from its warehouse in Lothian to Annapolis on from 8am to 1pm, Wednesdays, Jun. 16th & 23rd and Saturdays, June 19th &26th. Work teams will meet at the current warehouse (1325 Marlboro Road, Lothian, MD) to prepare and move over 50,000 books. Creating Communities
8:00 am–2:00 pm, Mon.-Fri, Jun. 28 – Jul. 2, 2010, 2010 Arts Mentorship Academy: Applications are being accepted for youth, age 8-17, for a week-long arts immersion program at Maryland Hall for the Performing Arts; talented young artists will experience art as a “life tool” by creating, collaborating and communicating with other like-minded youth. This program is facilitated and mentored by some of the best artists and teachers in the area. Participants receive breakfast and lunch each day and are exposed to a variety of art forms– drama, dance, drumming, painting and more! There is no cost for the program although candidates will be selected on the basis of need. The closing performance of the Creating Communities Arts Mentorship Academy is Friday, July 2 at 12:15pm at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, 801 Chase Street, Annapolis, MD and is open free of charge to the public. Regency Park Assisted Living
Regency Park provides supportive care to residents at their facility in Gambrills, MD. A volunteer driver (with 4-wheel drive vehicle), age 21 and up and with a good driving record, is needed to transport caregivers to the facility in inclement weather conditions in the winter months. Emmaus Center
Emmaus Center is a nonprofit organization which serves poor and homeless people to give them a sense of community by providing resources that otherwise would not be available. There is an immediate need for: 1. A volunteer bookkeeper with skills and experience in small business bookkeeping; 2. A volunteer grant writer, ideally someone who has a track record in researching potential grants and knowledge of nonprofit and faith-based funding sources; 3. Volunteer counselors with experience in working in areas of drug and alcohol abuse to work with adult male and female homeless persons and to develop community resources to whom such persons can be referred; the counselor would also facilitate working with a Pastoral Care Associate; 4. Volunteer general receptionists to help in the office; and, 5. Volunteers to help prepare lunches for 10-20. Hours are flexible. For more information, contact 410-766-7729 or emmauscenter@gmail.com. Reginald Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture (Baltimore)
The museum is dedicated to serving the community by providing multifaceted support through meaningful interactions with history and material culture of Maryland African Americans. Volunteers, age 16 and older, are needed to assist at the Information Desk, as Docents, for Special Events, and more. There are ongoing opportunities on Saturdays and Sundays for assistance with greeting guests and patrons at the main entrance and to work with kid’s activities during public hours. Rob’s Barber Shop Community Foundation
This nonprofit features projects that provide no-charge grooming services for individuals who cannot afford to attend the barber or beauty salon. Volunteers, minimum age 16 are needed for administrative tasks. Volunteer barbers and hairstylist are also needed to serve homeless and other needy persons in Odenton and surrounding areas. Severna Park Assistance Network (SPAN)
SPAN in cooperation with area churches help persons in their community in need of crisis assistance because of evictions, utility turn-off notices, emergency medical or prescription needs, food pantry or other services. Span needs volunteers to staff the office, work in the food pantry Monday and Wednesday mornings and donate food and other items for the pantry. Get your group to sponsor a food drive or pick up a few extra items when you shop and drop them off at SPAN Mon – Thurs, 10 am – 2 pm and Mon evenings 5 – 7 pm. One-time projects such as painting, cleaning windows, moving pantry shelves are also available. SPAN is located behind Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 400 Benfield Road. Prince Georges County Department of Recreation and Parks
10am, 2pm, and 8pm, daily, July 11-24, 2010, Space Use Project: Volunteer counters, age 18 and up, are needed for the Space Use Project which will help Parks and Recreation better understand how all of the spaces and rooms in community centers, senior centers, and historic sites are being used. At the times listed, counters
with the Space Use Project will count and document the number of patrons using every room at one or two assigned facilities. Volunteers who complete 100% of their assigned counts and submit the documentation on time will receive a gift card. Training and background checks are required.
