Apply Now- Volunteer Center AmeriCorps*Vista Position

Are you computer and Web 2.0 savvy? If you also want to encourage disadvantaged youth to become successful, join the Volunteer Center as an AmeriCorps*VISTA  member. Help develop our Youth Action Corps and Teens as Problem Solvers programs.

The purpose of our Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) and Teens as Problem Solvers  (TAPS) programs is to empower and engage more disadvantaged youth as agents of positive change in their communities. The goal is for these youth to learn positive ways to act upon their social concerns.

The VISTA member will assist with development of our new Youth Volunteer Corps by creating a consistent look for the YVC, including development of a web site, e-newsletter, social networking sites (facebook, myspace, twitter), blogs, promotional videos, speaker’s kit, and more.

The VISTA member will also recruit youth participants residing in low-income or underserved communities to become members of the Youth Volunteer Corps (for younger teens) and Teens as Problem Solvers (for older youth) and organize and implement Service Learning Projects during the year of service.

In return, the AmeriCorps*VISTA member will receive a modest annual living allowance of approximately $11,300 along with training, basic individual health insurance, and federal student loan deferment, as well as a post-service education award of up to $4725 to help pay for future college courses or student loans. Some work schedule flexibility and mileage reimbursement are available. This is a grant-funded, full-time position.

Candidates must be self-starters, at least 18 years of age, have some college, and their own reliable transportation. Must be willing to attend weekend and evening meetings and volunteer projects.
