Annapolis Arts, Crafts & Wine Festival Jun. 7-8, 2014
A variety of volunteers will be needed to help on each day of the Festival’s fifth year. Each volunteer will receive: an admission ticket to the event; a souvenir wine or beer glass; bottled water, and a special gift. The event is being held from 10 am–6 pm, Sat., June 7, and 10-5 pm, Sun. Jun.8, 2014, outdoors at the Annapolis Navy-Marine Memorial Stadium. There will be juried works of over 150 of the regions’ best artists and craftsmen employing a variety of medium: painting, sculpture, ceramics, digital art, mixed media, printmaking, jewelry, fiber art, glass, wood, leather, metal and photography. Guests will sample wines from dozens of Maryland wineries under tented wine pavilions….and children are welcome, too, for KIDS’ART activities. Community Preservation & Development Corp. (CPDC) Wiley H. Bates Senior Residence
The Bates Senior Residence is operated in Annapolis by CPDC, a nonprofit organization that creates and preserves financially sound, socially responsible affordable housing for low and moderate income individuals and families. Greater Odenton Improvement Association
The Greater Odenton Improvement Association (GOLA) is a 501(c)(4) community improvement association. It represents residents in the Odenton, Severn, and Gambrills area. The association needs a volunteer Secretary and several Directors to fill out and renew the organization. Candidates must live within the association boundaries. There is a process involved in going from temporary to being permanent. These positions are permanent, subject to re-election members of the GOIA Board. First Sunday Arts Festival
The streets and parks on West and Calvert Streets in the downtown historic area will be filled with over 100 unique artists and crafters, live bands, dance, street performers, and international outdoor cafes for the 12th Annual First Sunday Arts Festival. The dates for 2014 are the first Sunday in the months May through October: May 4, June 1, July 6, August 3, September 7, and October 5, each from 12:00 noon-5:00 pm. There is also a First Sunday Holiday Arts Sale on November 2 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts at 801 Chase Street. Admission is free to all First Sunday events. Volunteers are needed to help on four different shifts each Sunday between the hours of 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with set-up, assist the coordinator, and assist exhibitors/musicians/performers. Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism Service Awards
The Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism (GOSV) is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards. For 30 years, the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards have recognized the significant contributions of Maryland citizens to the life and health of the State and its people. This year, the awards will represent outstanding service occurring in 2013 (or longer for the lifetime achievement award) in a number of categories. Nominations for the awards must be submitted via an online form by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2014. Lab Rescue of the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac
This volunteer-driven nonprofit rescues, fosters and adopts out Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retriever-Lab mixes. Volunteers are needed to assist with Adopt-a-Lab Day on weekends; as transporters of dogs to and from vets; conducting home visits in connection with adoptions; and to provide foster homes for Labs. Parole Rotary Club,
Parole Rotary, sponsor of the 2014 Naptown barBAYq needs volunteers. Sat. & Sun., May 3 & 4, 2014. A large number of volunteers are needed to help with this gala event being held at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds. There will be more than 40 live bands, children’s activities, barbecue tasting, arts and crafts, and much more. Volunteer help will be needed for several shifts each day for: Directing and assisting with traffic & parking. Time Slots needed: Saturday 10:30 am–3 pm; 2:30 pm–7 pm; 6:30 pm–10 pm; and Sunday 11:30 am–3:30 pm, and 3:00 pm–6 pm. Volunteers are given a 2014 collectors T-shirt and something to eat and drink. Partners In Care
Partners In Care is a community nonprofit providing supportive services to help older adults remain independent in their own homes. We operate using an innovative time-exchange program to build community. People use their time and talents to help each other accomplish the myriad tasks of everyday living. Anyone who helps out will get help back from the community when they need it. Services are non-medical and neighborly. Primary services include the Ride Partners program in which volunteer drivers take people to their medical appointments; and the Repairs Program, in which volunteer handymen make small repairs to help people maintain their homes. In addition, volunteer opportunities are available to work in the Upscale, Resale Boutique, to help in the office, to run events, and more.
