Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is a regional non-profit conservation organization whose mission is to restore the Chesapeake Bay through collaborative engagement of communities, businesses, and other conservation groups in the Bay watershed.  A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year.  Current opportunities include support of communications efforts (including writing, and web, display, and document design), tagging and organizing our Flickr photo library, and helping to organize and/or staff restoration projects and events.   In particular, part-time volunteers are needed to staff our reception desk, provide administrative and clerical assistance (includes research, data entry, answering phones, and mailings) and provide program/project support for the headquarters staff.   Our office is located at 501 Sixth Street in Eastport area of Annapolis, MD 21403.  Hours are flexible. For more information, e-mail contact@allianceforthebay or fill out an inquiry online at www.allianceforthebay.org.

 

Annapolis Amblers Walking Club

This nonprofit membership club has weekly and organized special walking events that provide opportunities for exercise. The organization provides weekly walking events of 10KM & 5KM length on outdoor trails. It car pools to walk start points from the Melting Pot across from Annapolis Towne Center each Saturday leaving at 8:00 AM. Anne Arundel County Public Library

Library Branches have differing needs for both on-going projects and short-term volunteer activities. Some examples include cleaning and re-casing books, CD and DVD collections, assembly of Story-Time projects, copying, data processing or other computer projects, and file maintenance; ongoing tasks for daily morning shifts include helping with  unloading and processing delivery and looking on the shelves for requested items. Volunteer shifts are often flexible and may include some evenings or weekends in addition to day-time hours. Some Branches can work with volunteers as young as 14 and may keep applications on file to call prospective volunteers when needs arise. Training is provided. See www.aacpl.net. Scenic Rivers Land Trust

The Scenic Rivers Land Trust (SRLT) works with landowners and other partners to preserve natural and scenic areas in Anne Arundel County. This work is accomplished through landowner education and holding and facilitating land protection agreements (including conservation easements). A limited number of SRLT volunteers are needed throughout the year to assist with public outreach, conduct stewardship visits to our protected properties and to assist with fundraising events. Asbury Church Assistance Network (ACAN)

ACAN is a non-profit organization providing food/toiletries, and/or financial assistance toward court-ordered eviction notices or utility cut-off notices in Anne Arundel County. Volunteer Claims Analysts and Intake Personnel are needed who are high school graduates with at least 2 years of customer service experience. Volunteer Inventory Personnel with at least 2 years of high school education are also needed. Candidates must be computer literate and have excellent communication and customer service skills. Hours are flexible, 10a.m.–2:00p.m., Mon.–Wed., but extension of hours is possible. Training is available. For more information, contact asbury.acan@gmail.com or 410-647-7667.

Baltimore City Public Schools VEX Robotic Events, July 17-18 & July 30, 2014

As part of the summer VEX robotics program for Baltimore City Public Schools, scrimmage and final competition events are being held at the Coppin State University PE Center which will include about 200 middle school teams. Learn more about the VEX program held at many schools throughout the country at www.vexrobotics.com. A large number of volunteers are needed for setup the day before the events and to assist on the day of events. Setup will be held from 9a.m.-8p.m. on Wed., July 16 for scrimmages being held on Jul. 17 & 18 and from 8p.m-6p.m, on Tues., July 29 before the tournament on Wed., July 30, 2014. A variety of volunteer opportunities also will be available on the days of the scrimmages (7a.m-3:00p.m on July 17, and from 7a.m.-5p.m. on July 18) and from 7a.m-6p.m on July 30, the day of the tournament. These include registration, placement, and management of volunteers, check-in of teams, queuing of teams, resetting of game fields, and more. Honor Rows Program

The Baltimore Ravens, the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism, and M&T Bank invite you to submit a nomination for the 15th Annual Honor Rows program. The Honor Rows program honors youth groups or youth organizations that provide outstanding volunteer service to their communities. Winning groups will receive up to 100 tickets to a game, Honor Rows t-shirts for all participants, a pre-game on-field visit and official in-game recognition on the RavensVision screens. In addition, the Ravens’ broadcast partner, WBAL-TV, will feature each group during a telecast every Thursday prior to a home game. North County Emergency Outreach Network (NCEON)

NCEON in cooperation with area churches helps persons in their community in need of crisis assistance because of evictions, utility turn-off notices, emergency prescription needs, food pantry or other services. NCEON needs occasional volunteers to staff the office, stock shelves, bag food for the pantry and donate food and other items for the pantry.
