Bello Machre
Bello Machre provides loving homes and support to people with developmental disabilities. Our volunteers open their hearts to develop friendships with the individuals we serve. We offer a variety of opportunities that are best suited to your talents, interests, and time. Whether it’s spending time with an individual scrapbooking, cooking, watching movies, or playing video games, lending a hand with yard work or gardening at one of our homes, or helping staff at our administrative office. Volunteer hours are flexible and opportunities are available throughout Anne Arundel County. Orientation training is provided and volunteers 18-years-old and up must pass a criminal background check. Chesapeake Bay Trust
The Chesapeake Bay Trust is a nonprofit, grant-making organization dedicated to improving the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers through environmental education, community outreach, and local watershed restoration. Since 1985, the Trust has awarded $65 million in grants and engaged hundreds of thousands of citizen stewards in projects that have a measurable impact on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. - 6:30 a.m.–12 Noon, Sept 28, 2014, Tri for the Chesapeake Sprint & Duathalon: The Chesapeake Bay Trust is pleased to be the charitable recipient for the first time with Tri for the Chesapeake, a sprint and duathalon event to be held at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, MD. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping to put on this wonderful event that will raise money to help the Chesapeake Bay. There are several positions available, including course marshals, transition assistants, packet pickup assistants, parking, and more. - 8am–8pm, Sat., Nov. 15, 2014, Rocksgiving Striped Bass Fishing Tournament: The Chesapeake Bay Trust is looking for volunteers for Rocksgiving, Annapolis’ premiere striped bass fishing tournament. The tournament will be held at Chesapeake Harbour Marina and will benefit the Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Bowen Foundation for Autism. Volunteers are needed in the morning for logistics, for weigh-in activities starting at 4 pm, and for the After Party which will take place at Sam’s on the Waterfront from 4-8 pm. Cuz We Care
Cuz We Care is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families who have lost a child to pay for final arrangements. The goal of this organization is to provide financial assistance to others who are unable to pay for and need help to bury their child or to support their families while they struggle in the immediate aftermath of their loss. There is an immediate need for volunteers to help with occasional community fund raising events to support this mission. Friends of Quiet Waters Park, Art@ the Park, Oct. 18-19, 2014
Volunteers are needed to help with this year’s Art@ the Park (formerly the Arts and Music Festival) in two hour shifts from 9:30am–5:30 pm, Sat.–Sun., Oct. 18–19, 2014 at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. The festival features original art work from over 70 exhibitors in 14 categories, both locally and throughout the country. It includes music, art demonstrations, activities, bb-q and specialty food, wine and beer. Nancy Hammond will be previewing the 2015 Annual Chesapeake Poster at the festival. Volunteers will be needed to help with the raffle, manning an information table, and serving as a host to assist visitors and exhibitors. Volunteers will receive free admission to the festival and a coupon for a free snack. Project Homeless Connect 2014, Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014
The 3rd Homeless Connect event, sponsored by the City of Baltimore, Excelon, and United Way, is being held at the Baltimore Convention Center form 9:30 am–5:30 pm on Oct. 2, 2014. Volunteer guides are needed to be paired with a homeless participant and help connect them to the many services at the event. Last year, volunteers helped 2,000 people experiencing homelessness obtain housing services, medical care, dental care, legal assistance, ID cards, groceries, haircuts and much more. Severna Park Community Center
Volunteer opportunities include helping on committees, help with benefit events (Gala, Golf Tournament, etc.), help support small projects held at the Center, and much more. - 7:00 am, Sept. 27, 2014, Karen Stevens Memorial Kid’s Marathon: Children of all ages are welcome to have fun during this triathlon being held for the sixth year at the Severna Park Community Center, 623 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard Severna Park, MD 21146. YMCA of Central Maryland, Greater Annapolis Family Center
Volunteers, 18 and older, are needed as instructors in after school youth activities weekdays for children ages 5-11 at various schools throughout the County from 3:00-5:00 PM. Volunteers are also needed before and after school to work with elementary school children providing enrichment activities including homework assistance, reading, making snacks, and doing arts and crafts projects. Volunteers need not have prior training as they will work with trained, paid instructors. Volunteers working with youth must complete a background screening and fingerprinting process.
