The Annapolis Craft Beer & Music Festival, Sat., Sept. 21, 2013
A variety of volunteers will be needed to help make this fun event a success. Each volunteer will receive: an admission ticket to the event; free on-site parking; a souvenir wine or beer glass; and, bottled water. The event is being held from 12 Noon–6:00 pm, Sat.. Sept 21, 2013, at the Annapolis Navy-Marine Memorial Stadium. Annapolis Housing Authority
From 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m, on Sat., October 12, 2013 the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis will hold its annual “Pathways to Opportunities” Conference at the Roger “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center on Hilltop Lane in Annapolis. Annapolis Maritime Museum
The Museum needs volunteers on a continuing basis to maintain and expand its innovative environmental education program, conduct tours to the historic Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, restore wooden boats, interpret the Museum’s exhibits to the public, and help with the winter seminar series, the summer concert series, and events like the Annapolis Oyster Roast & Sock Burning in March and the Boatyard Beach Bash in September. Anne Arundel County Fire Advisory Board
Residents are being sought by the county executive, Laura Newman, to serve on a panel that advises the county executive and fire chief on policies and procedures related to the administration of fire and rescue, and emergency management systems in the county. The nine-member board consists of six firefighter members, three of which are appointed by the AA County Volunteer Firefighters Association, two by the firefighters union, and one by the Battalion Chiefs Organization. The county executive appoints the remaining three positions. Anne Arundel County Public Schools AVID Tutoring Program
The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Tutoring Program supports students in grades 6 through 12 who are in the academic middle. AVID tutors, age 18 and older, will be trained to work with small groups of students during the AVID elective class. These students have gone through an application process and have been selected to participate in the AVID Program at their respective school. Tutors will help students be successful by assisting them with problem-solving techniques, working collaboratively with other students, and serving as role models. Tutors would commit to at least one semester of tutoring at one of the AVID sites for a minimum of one hour per week, during the regular school day. AA County Office of Emergency Management CERT Training, Oct. 11-13, 2013
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. Anne Arundel Department of Social Services
The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services’ Holiday Sharing program matches donors to seniors and/or families in need during Thanksgiving & Christmas. Donors shop for food, clothing, and toys for the holiday and personally deliver to the household. Volunteers are needed at the Annapolis location for data entry and to answer and make phone calls October through December 2013. Light House Shelter
This emergency shelter facility provides shelter for single men and women and families and runs a transitional housing program in Annapolis. Volunteers, 18 and over, are needed for a variety of duties associated with the food program, children’s programs, facilities cleaning & maintenance, office and administration, and adult education programs. Pro bono professional volunteers are also needed serve the shelter and its clients with specialized skills such as accounting, medicine, law, and carpentry. The hours are flexible for many tasks and training is provided. In addition to volunteers, the shelter has an immediate need for pantry food items because of a greatly increased demand for lunches.
